Research study on Differential impacts of transition to remote academic labour at GTA universities during the COVID-19 pandemic

Message from the researchers:

Dear Colleague,

We are inviting academics at GTA universities to complete an online survey about the impact of remote working during the first year of the pandemic on their experiences of research, teaching and service. Your email was included because you are a member of a faculty association of one of these institutions (the Ontario College of Art & Design, Ryerson University, University of Ontario Institute of Technology, University of Toronto, or York University).

The purpose of this study is to understand the impacts of the emergency transition to remote academic work on GTA faculty during the first 17 months of the pandemic. This research will help to identify the ways in which changes to teaching, research, and service under remote conditions have affected academics within and across different disciplines and universities. This survey asks about your experiences of research, teaching and service, caregiving responsibilities, and demographics.

We hope that you will consider taking the time to share your experiences so that a comprehensive picture of the impact of COVID-19 on remote academic work can be assembled. This research is being conducted in partnership with the Ontario Confederation of Faculty Associations (OCUFA) with the support of the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada. Its results will be made publicly available.

The survey should take up to 15 minutes to complete. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you may choose to not answer any question or stop participating in the survey at any time. Your responses will be kept confidential and will not be associated with your email or contact information. Your participation (or non-participation) in this project will not affect your employment at your institution. The risks in this study are expected to be minimal.

More information and consent materials are attached to this message. If you would like additional information about the study, please contact Dr. Natalie Oman (facultyimpacts@ontariotechu.ca). Study results will be available to participants on the OCUFA website.
