Dear OCADFA members,

Today, on  Wednesday March 4th at 1:25 pm, OCAD U students will be taking part in the national student walk-out in support of the Wet’suwet’en.

The Wet’suwet’en nation are teaching Canadians what decolonization looks like. It means exercising sovereignty over their unceded territory. After 150+ years of colonial land theft, it’s time for Canada to respect Indigenous sovereignty and enact Nation to Nation diplomacy with the First Nations of the land. Students taking part in this action of solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en understand this. We hope you do too.

OCADFA asks our members to consider providing academic accommodation for which no student shall receive an academic penalty for not attending classes, and concurrently provide students an appropriate extension of deadlines for the day of action and reasonable alternative access to materials covered during their absence that does not alter the academic standards associated with the missed activity. Deciding not to attend classes on this day to participate in the external event does not relieve students of the responsibility for mastering materials covered. Students should be made aware that they can make alternate arrangements for any assignments due March 4 or tests scheduled for that day

Faculty are invited to join students in the main lobby and/or Lambert lounge to learn more.

In Solidarity,

Min Sook Lee
